MiCTA 2014 Grants
MiCTA has recently funded North Valley Military Institute in Granada Hills, California. The Grant will help fund the initial purchase of tablet computers and wireless Internet access for the school's 1-to-1 tablet computing program.
The grant will allow NVMI to access the Internet 24 hours a day using Sprint's 3G/4G network. Students will access web-based educational resources that support the school's college preparatory curriculum, and computer-based assessment tools to help quantify the individual student's educational progress. NVMI's 1-to-1 learning program is designed to allow students to become proficient at keyboarding, navigating computer-based assessment tools, and using online learning tools for mathematics, science, writing, reading, history/Social Studies and languages other than English.
MiCTA announces the Spring 2014 Grant winner, Webster Elementary School in Green Bay, Wisconsin. MiCTA has provided 8 Amazon Kindle Fire tablets to the kindergarten class at Webster Elementary. The tablets will be used to delete the gap in student achievement and standardized test scores.
The students will use the tablets on a daily basis for literacy, math and guided reading. These tablets will also be used by the English Language Learner (ELL) teacher at Webster Elementary for students to improve their English language that come from other ethical and racial backgrounds. There are countless applications on tablets that will be incorporated into the small group centers and large group workshops based on students’ individual needs to positively impact learning.
